Takeovers, Collabs & Commissions

From royal knees-ups to inspiring intergenerational panel discussions, we love nothing more than a creative collaboration with a brilliant partner brand or organisation! Whatever the brief, our partners trust us to bring bags of energy, big bold creative ideas and lovely new audiences into their spaces.

We’ve been known to pop-up in a range of fabulous spaces in Manchester and beyond, running special editions of our regular community events such as Speed-Mating, Angst Aerobics and Shake It Off. We always jump at the chance to develop new events and experiences befitting of an occasion, giving careful thought to everything from inclusivity and interactivity to the finer details of our trademark DIY décor.

No two takeovers, collaborations or commissions are ever quite alike as we commit to finding ways of sprinkling the Girl Gang magic in just the right way for everyone involved!

Want to commission us to make work for your space or got an idea you’d like to pitch for us to produce?

Just So Festival

Girl Gang has been a part of Wild Rumpus’s Just So Festival 2023 and 2024. First bringing the emotional exorcism of Angst Aerobics, an alternative exercise for an anxious time, as well as Build A Better Future Book Club Kids Special, which celebrated inspiring books that help us to imagine a better future for all. And returning in 2024 we again brought the successful angst aerobics as well as Play It By Ear an interactive conversation station to bring the stories of the forest to life!

WOW Festival

We were part of the incredible line-up that took over Aviva Studios for WOW festival. We brought a whole host of treats including; Hye Hunz who roamed across the festival grounds bigging and glittering people up! Play It By Ear: An active listening conversation station where you can figure out the nitty gritty with a perfect stranger; I See Red lipstick mirror installation in the bathroom; Scream Into The Void: A powerful bookable experience to schedule the expression of rage into your busy day; and Angst Aerobics: An emotional exorcism through exercise!

IWD Love & Rage

We saw and felt red on International Women’s Day at Aviva Studios. There was dancing, workshops, catharsis and connection. An International Women’s Day like no other with a party inspired by Kate Bush’s iconic song Love and Anger. We created a series of drop-in activities centered around love and rage, featuring friendship bracelet making, a co-created community protest banner and self-love sonnet writing. We blew off some steam at Angst Aerobics – an alternative exercise class for anxious times – discussed the powerful potential of channelling our unbridled emotions and let loose with a Democratic Disco where the audience helped choose the tunes.

A Day of Play

Girl Gang’s play day encouraged audiences to follow their curiosity, excite their senses, connect with others and nurture their inner child through a range of activities, artistic interventions, performances, talks and ways to have fun and reflect. We created brand new workshops and pieces of art as well as adapting a couple of familiar offers around the theme.

We Invented The Weekend

A festival all about celebrating how people choose to spend their free time, Girl Gang brought the joy with 100% That Stitch, to get creative and connect over your chosen craft activity; Angst Aerobics, an alternative exercise for an anxious time; Shake It Off, a 1 hour dance class inspired by your favourite pop music videos to bring FUN into your life.

Swinging Sisters

To mark Mark Morris’ joyful Beatles themed dance show opening at The Lowry, we hosted an epic party celebrating an iconic era. Donning our shortest mini skirts and cladding ourselves in our loudest colours, Girl Gang Manchester took the party back to the 60’s!

Processions

Over a series of participatory community workshops, our Amy co-created a beautiful fabric banner made from a collage of voices and ideas all celebrating 100 years of some women having the right to vote in the UK. The workshops were part of a national project run by Artichoke Arts and on 10th June 2018 some of our team travelled down to London and participated in a mass art happening where 10’s of 100’s of women and hundreds of community groups marched through the streets and all the UK capitals.

SIX: Queens Of The Night
