We named our birthday celebration A Decade of Us & You because it’s about all of us! So much has happened and changed across the last 10 years, for us as a collective, a community, individuals, a localised community and global society & it feels an important opportunity to look back and forward, together. To extend the conversation and mark the moment, we’re creating a zine!
A zine (short for fanzine) is a small-batch, self-published, DIY booklet featuring original or curated text and imagery. Often created by individuals or small collectives for a relatively small audience or on niche topics. They are created using photocopiers, staples and cut and stick aesthetics and range in content from personal narratives and poetry to politics and fan culture—prioritizing personal expression and the creation of community over mass appeal or profit.
This might look like:
A Q&A with your bezzie met at Speed Mate-ing,
A piece of work you presented via one of our cabarets or exhibitions
A self portrait series documenting how you’ve changed across this time
A painting or poem inspired by a political event.
An reflective essay about life milestone, transformation or journey within this time
An illustrated diagram documenting your life in 2016 vs now.
A collage of headlines or social media captions from a memorable year.
The zine will be curated from a mixture of submissions from Girl Gang artists, and audience. As this will be a printed publication, we won’t be able to include every submission, but will treasure everything we receive
