Speed Mate-ing

It can be hard making new friends as an adult, can’t it? Fear not, with 7 years of success, Speed Mate-ing with Girl Gang Manchester is here to help! After all this time, there’s still nothing that melts our hearts more than watching the wonder of new friendships blossoming before us!
With 1000’s of participants across this time, too many gorgeous success stories to mention and as featured in The Guardian, BBC 5 Live, Refinery 29, The MEN, Northern Soul, Manchester’s Finest and Manchester Confidential, Speed Mate-ing is Girl Gang’s bi-monthly and bookable mate-making events!
Investing in the importance of platonic relationships and encouraging people to regain the skill of speaking to strangers to help reduce urban loneliness and create a more confident and connected city for us all, Girl Gang rebel against the pressures and constraints of everyday life and our increasingly online world to coax participants from their comfort zones and off the internet to connect.
Taking inspiration from dating shows, bad business meetings, magazines, art attack and agony aunts, the evening is hosted and facilitated with enough structure to keep you secure and enough freedom for fun, including:
  • Soft arrivals and ice breakers
  • Conversation starters
  • Quick fire questions
  • Timely topical themes
  • Paired and small group activities
  • Creative challenges
  • Games
Speed Mate-ing has proven to be an enjoyable and successful way of making new friends time and time again and prides itself on enabling people to be their most authentic selves and create connections, quickly and fear free.
This event welcomes people of all genders, ages, races, classes and sexualities. 90% of people come totally alone and there are always members of our teams on hand to chat to through-out the night.

“Speed-mate-ing offers genuine interactions. …The effect is reminiscent of that ‘best mate’ scenario many of us have encountered in the club bathroom, friendship forged over outfit compliments and lipstick-sharing… The atmosphere was buzzing, fuelled by the excitement of trying something new and the energetic Girl Gang team.”

Manchester Confidentials

2 people sat on chair talking holding papers and pens, they are sat in front of a stage with a projector screen and sign saying girl gang
group of people stood in front of a bar talking with one another holding drinks
“It’s a great environment to meet so many different types of people in a setting that doesn’t feel awkward at all. Within minutes of being there I really do feel welcome and by the end I’d found a few possible new friends.”

Northern Soul

3 groups of pairs of people, all sat on chairs along a wall, they are talking in their pairs
“Taking inspiration from ‘dating shows, bad business meetings, teenage sleepovers, art attack and agony aunts’, the team have come up with a novel way to help those who might feel a bit isolated in the big city. With creative challenges, conversational topics and lots of laughs, it’s essentially speed-dating but for friends, and none of that weird fear of rejection nonsense or agonisingly stilted conversation.”
