Immersive Screenings

Life-size sets, interactive activities, pop up performances, obsessive fandom, fancy dress, party bags and quote-a-long classics – immersive screenings have been staple of Girl Gang’s events, right from the very beginning!

Step into our recreated worlds, rediscover and recontextualise a film you thought you knew through a feminist lens – all while celebrating some of the best explorations of friendship on screen!

Our immersive screenings have seen us work with venues across Manchester from The Lowry, 53Two, Hope Mill Theatre and in collaboration with Girl Gang Sheffield across the Pennines at Theatre Delicatessen and Picture House Social.

Want us to run an immersive screening in your venue?  We are full of ideas for other cinematic worlds we’d love to bring to life, please get in touch.

Bend It Like Beckham

We were SO excited to finally bring Bend It Like Beckham to life to round off the Summer of Sport at Stretford Mall! People joined us for a noughties nostalgia throwback including handmade decor, immersive set and roaming performers! Thematic workshops, drop in activities, dancing, audience participation, food, film, drinks and discussion in our tactile, celebratory immersive exploration of this iconic film! It was amazing to work with loads of talented local artists, organisations and community groups to highlight women in sport, south Asian identity, friendship and football! (Photo by Jon Parker Lee)

Romy & Michele's

As part of The Lowry’s Week 53 Festival, we presented an immersive celebration of the 90’s slacker gal classic celebrating life long friendships, repairing youthful wounds and reminding us all that it’s OK to be awesomely average.

Bridesmaids

After the sellout success of our first event, we returned to Wonder Women festival with an immersive screening of the hit female comedy Bridesmaids! Girl Gang Manchester #2: Bridesmaids celebrated and analysed female friendships, competitiveness and wedding culture. The event featured Lillian’s Parisian themed Bridal shower and the wedding reception in our beautifully decorated venue with hand made decor and extravagant design, alongside workshops from: improvised comedy, kicking competitiveness sisterhood workshop and self worth and building healthy relationships.

The Punk Singer

An immersive and interactive screening by Girl Gang Sheffield charting the life of feminist punk heroine (and our favourite gal) Kathleen Hanna. Part gig, part revolution – Girl Gang Sheffield showcased what it was/is to be part of the Riot Grrrl movement with audience members fully immersed with a DIY event, stalls featuring printed works from Sheffield artists and beyond, and workshops from local female thinkers and creatives; all exploring Riot grrls place and importance in society, past and present.

Mean Girls

Girl Gang Manchester’s first event was an immersive screening of Mean Girls, held at Hope Mill Theatre as part of Wonder Women, Manchester’s annual feminist festival. The event included hand decorated tickets, creative and empowerment workshops, a mini market of local businesses, live performances, goody bags, interactive elements linked to the film and a fully decorated venue inspired by North Shore High’s Spring Fling.

The Craft

The Craft hosted by Girl Gang Sheffield was a fully immersive and interactive screening of one of our favourite films; in which we took over Moor Theatre Deli and transformed it into a suitably spooky space to hang out and have fun! The event featured themed workshops, a tarot card art exhibition, a site-specific performance, pop-up stalls along with an immersive film screening.
